With more than 20 years of local expertise, our qualified motor trimming tradesmen excel in designing, manufacturing and installing high-quality shade products. Our staff listens to your needs and advises on the design best suited to you. We have the latest equipment available, ensuring we get the best results possible.

Steve Herron

Steve has worked in the Motor Trimming industry in Townsville for over 30 years. In 2002, he embarked on his own business and began to trade as Stingray Shade & Vinyl.  Steve has extensive knowledge in all aspects of trimming and encourages a high standard of attention to detail from all his staff.

Ed Watkins

Ed brings 30 years of qualified motor trimming experience to the Stingray Shade & Vinyl team. Although Ed is most passionate about custom retrims on old muscle cars, he is very knowledgeable in all aspects of the motor trimming industry. Ed is very skilled with intricate stitch work and is meticulous with any task, enjoying the versatility of the trade and the diverse range of work available. 

Kalib Muir

Kalib is qualified in motor trimming, having finished his apprenticeship in 2022. Kalib shows well-rounded skills in the trade, has a passion for intricate machine work and boat trimming.

Chris Keys 

Chris has been Motor Trimming since 1999 and has had a broad range of experiences with local Motor Trimming and Shade Sail businesses including 4 years in furniture Upholstery. Chris enjoys all aspects of the industry but has a keen interest in cars and canvas work.

Tim Borrington 

Tim is an enthusiastic trade assistant who enjoys learning new skills.

Wendy Henderson

Wendy manages our office and all accounts.

Jessica Jansen

Jessica administers our front office and purchasing.

Our Machinery


At Stingray Shade & Vinyl, we have extensive equipment and machine fleet for a variety of applications. We now have the latest DURKOPP Adler Long and Short Arm sewing machines to handle jobs of all sizes. We also use a Short Arm Adler for precise trim work, a Long and Short Arm K6 for outdoor work, as well as the pride of our fleet, the Adler H887 Long Arm for large and heavy-duty work. 


For stitch-free and waterproof seams on our PVC work, we use a high frequency vinyl welder.
